Upon receiving her Bachelor’s degree in Theoretical Nuclear Physics from the University of Tirana in Albania, Dr. Asllani was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to pursue her Master’s and PhD in Bioengineering at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. Following her graduate studies, she joined Columbia University’s then newly established MRI center where she spearheaded the Arterial Spin Labeling Perfusion MRI program. She currently holds a dual appointment as a Research MRI Physicist at the Brighton and
Sussex Medical School in the UK and Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology in the USA where she directs the Integrated NeuroImaging Lab. The focus of her research is the development and implantation of multi-modal MRI methods for applications in basic neuroscience and clinical research.
Multimodal Functional Imaging of the Diseased Brain
The primary goal of clinical MRI is the development of effective biomarkers that can distinguish the diseased brain from its normal counterpart in early stages. To this end, several methods have been developed that can measure various aspects of the brain’s structure and function. This talk will focus on recent efforts to integrate these methods, including non-MRI based ones, to provide a comprehensive and quantitative assessment of the diseased brain.
